Firstly I would like to thank The Border Terrier Club for giving me the honour of judging the open show at Low Hesket, with this show and venue being very memorable from a young age I was delighted and privileged to accept the invitation to judge the show. A huge thank you goes to my two stewards on the day who kept my ring moving smoothly, also appreciation goes to the club as a whole for the great hospitality shown. The standard of the exhibits on the day was overall pleasing with quality of bitches slightly outweighing the dogs, many thanks to all exhibitors for giving me the chance to go over their dogs and making my day such a pleasure.

Minor Puppy Dog Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

 1st: Keebank Just In Time (Mrs L Keeffe) 6 month old Grizzle puppy dog, pleasing head with dark eye giving a good expression with neat ears, good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders and tight front. Good length of body covered in a tight jacket. Moved well for one so young.

2nd: Hollexby Travellin Man (Mr P Appleby) 6 month old grizzle puppy dog, nice head with well placed ears. Nice length of body with neat feet and good pelt. Moved ok for age but preferred front movement of 1st.

 1st: Whittonglebe Kaiser (Mr G Sugars) 10 month old grizzle dog standing alone in class, strong head with short muzzle, beautiful neat small ears in the correct place and keen dark eye. Good reach of neck flowing into a pleasing shoulder and length of body, short of coat today but nice texture is coming through, overall nice size and moved well. Best Puppy Dog & BOSPIS

1st: Chorbeck Move To The Music (Mrs H Haughton) Grizzle dog who moved beautifully around the ring on nice tight feet, good quality jacket with lose pelt. Plenty of bone and substance with good bend of stifle and straight front. Well carried rib and narrow throughout. Head ok with broad skull and nice dark eye.

2nd: Comberdown Soaring Spirit (Mr I & Mrs A Higham) Grizzle dog with pleasing head with dark eye and good teeth, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders, straight topline with tail well set on. Moved ok. Would have preferred more of him in bone.

3rd: Bonosue Mr Bojangles (Mr I A Hardman)


Special Beginners Dog Entries: 3 Absentees: 1

1st: Thornheswin New Beginning (Mrs C Boyd) Blue & Tan dog with plenty of ticking in his harsh coat, masculine head with a good eye, strong muzzle and large teeth. Good sized dog with everything in right place, moved well around the ring and was very attentive to his handler.

2nd: Kentixen Mint Imperial At Roseghyll (Mrs A Johnson) Grizzle dog with plenty of thick coat and loose pelt, lovely head with strong teeth and keen expression. Good topline and tailset, moved ok but was a little bit unsettled today.

2nd: Fieldsearch Jump Jack Flash (A Towers & D Pearson) Grizzle dog in lovely jacket, nice short strong muzzle with good breadth of skull and nice dark eye. Narrow in body with ribs carried back. Moved ok on neat feet.

1st: Cedarhill Melt In The Mouth (Mrs C Dean) Grizzle dog whom the minute I set my eyes on him I knew he was my winner, he just screams typical border and completes the whole picture by being a complete showman and very well presented with a tight coat. Beautiful head with correct skull and length of muzzle, ears set well and big strong teeth with correct bite. Nice reach of neck flowing into a good shoulder and front, well carried back rib allowing him to be easily spanned, level topline that was kept on the move and a lovely thick carrot tail. Moved with drive around the ring on neat feet oozing quality. Best Dog and Best in Show

2nd: Cashelrock Black Bush (Mr K H & Mrs D Moore) Grizzle dog in good fit condition with tight jacket. Good broad head and correct length of muzzle and keen expression. Good reach of neck and topline with narrow front and good length of body. Shown and moved well with racy hindquarters and neat feet. Good tailset completing a nice picture.

3rd: Cedarhill Dish Of The Day For Dexlin (Mr B & Mrs L P Inness)

1st: Cedarhill Authorisation (Mrs J Alpe) Grizzle dog well presented in fit condition with strong head, dark eye and strong muzzle with good scissor bite. Good reach of neck set on correct shoulder and straight front. Ribs set well with straight topline and good angulation behind. Moved well.

2nd: Otterpaws Mountain High (Mr & Mrs G Birrel) Grizzle dog who was up on his toes and keeping his handler busy. Pleasing head with keen expression and neat ears. Body in good proportion posing a level topline and good stifle, everything where it should be which allowed him to move around the ring well.

3rd: Lockhaugh Axis (Mr P Bates)

1st: Raleniro Second Time Around ShCM ShCEx (Mr M J & Mrs D A Lorraine & Miss P Thomas) Grizzle dog of lovely size and type shown in good tight coat and condition. Lovely head with neat dark ears and otter head, well placed shoulders and tight front leading to a good narrow body with ribs carried well back and level topline. Good angulation behind with good bend of stifle and nice neat feet. Moved well with plenty of drive. Reserve Best Dog

2nd: Lairehope Highland Chief Of Tweedburn (Mrs C A Archibald) Grizzle dog I have watched since he was a puppy and he did not disappoint just very short of coat today. Lovely compact handy size. Strong masculine head, perfect dark ears, good strong muzzle and large teeth. Good reach of neck and nice front, level topline which is kept on the move and well set on tail. Moved with presence around the ring.

1st: Blackmine Blue Pearl At Chorbeck (Mrs H Haughton) 8 month old blue & tan in a lovely nice jacket. Sweet girl showing lots of promise, nice head with dark eye and expression, well set neat ears. Everything where it should be for her age with nice length of body and topline leading into a carrot shaped tail. Eye catching girl with a good future ahead.

2nd: Northborders Campari (Miss J North) 6 month old grizzle with a good tight jacket, shown impeccably for her age never put a foot wrong. Moved well for one so young, pleasing head with a lovely reach of neck leading to good front and a level topline.

3rd: Hollexby Heartbreaker At Tinkletop (Mrs L Templeman)

1st: Twigglestone Victorious (Mrs C A Archibald) 11 month old blue & tan puppy bitch who caught my eye straight away as she entered the ring. Very smart and kept her handler working. Nice to see a puppy full of fun and enjoying herself. Keen expression given from her dark eye with a good strength of muzzle and breadth of skull. Correct shoulder and topline, with good carrot shaped tail set well. Moved around the ring with ease. Best Puppy Bitch & Best Puppy in Show

Good sized bitch who carried herself well around the ring with drive. Nice head with short muzzle, good reach of neck and length of body. Another nice carrot tail and neat feet.

2nd: Carrock Curiosity (Ms J Fawcett) Grizzle bitch with nice jacket and good fit condition, sweet feminine head with good big teeth, lovely length of neck leading to a correct shoulder and tight front. Level topline and rib carried well back. Moved well on nice tight feet.

2nd: Otterpaws Take It Easy With Raleniro JW (Mr M J & Mrs D A Lorraine) Grizzle bitch in full coat with a sweet head and lovely dark eye, good overall size with straight front and correct shoulder allowing good movement with drive from behind also.

1st: Akenside Electra (Mrs L A Gosling) Grizzle bitch of lovely quality and substance in tight coat. Beautiful head with correct skull and neat ears set well on. Good length of body with just the right amount of bone and size. Lovely straight front with ribs carried well back. Moved well. Very attentive to handler with a lovely demeanour between them both and not overdone in any way.

2nd: Beaconpike River Sky (Mr S & Mrs K Golding) Grizzle bitch with feminine head and nice reach of neck, front ok with good angulation behind allowing her to move well. Shown today with a new coat coming through.

Dark eye with short strong muzzle and good scissor bite with large teeth. Good length of neck leading to a correct shoulder and straight front, ribs carried well back and narrow body throughout with a good length and topline. Pleasing head with nice dark eye and neat ears, good reach of neck and straight front on tight feet, lovely and narrow throughout with good angulation behind, level topline and nice carrot tail set correctly. 2nd: Otterpaws Firebird ShCM (Miss A Dixon) Grizzle bitch with many of the same aspects as winner but short of coat today, nice head with good skull and muzzle, narrow throughout with well laid back rib, neat feet and carrot tail well set on.

2nd: Ch Lairehope Lord of the Glen At Tweedburn (Mrs C A Archibald) 10 year old grizzle dog shown in good fit condition for his age with a lovely jacket, good strong head with neat ears well placed, nice reach of neck leading to lovely shoulder placement and tight front with well carried back rib, good topline and well set on carrot tail. Very pleasing gentleman.
